Defending Class A public-school champion Hawkinsville (5-4) must win at Pacelli (5-3) on Friday to keep its playoff hopes alive. Even a victory is no guarantee, as Hawkinsville currently stand No. 21 in the GHSA's Class A public-school power ratings. Only 16 make the playoffs. If the Red Devils miss out, they will become only the second team this century (first since 2006) to miss the playoffs after winning a state championship. Five of the other six 2014 state champions are ranked No. 1 - Colquitt County, Northside (Warner Robins), Calhoun, Benedictine and Mount Paran Christian. Buford is No. 2.
