Lakeside-DeKalb swept the Region 2-AAAAAA Championships in Decatur Saturday. The boys (19 points) easily finished ahead of runner-up Rockdale County (43). Tucker and Newton rounded out the top four. The Vikings’ Davis Stockwell won the race in 16:15.91 ahead of Rockdale’s Dax Willette, who turned in a time of 16:15.99. Including Stockwell, Lakeside had six of the top seven finishers and seven of the top eight.
Lakeside had a similarly easy time in the girls race as it took just 15 points to runner-up Rockdale’s 54. Led by Morgan Mihalis’ first-place finish (20:15.71), the Vikings took seven of the top eight spots.
Blessed Trinity won the boys race and Westminster won the girls race at the Region 4-AAA meet in Buckhead. The Wildcats girls took 21 points to runner-up Blessed Trinity’s 43. Decatur came in third. Freshman Delaney Graham (19:03.95) won the race for Westminster and was trailed by BT’s Mary Claire Solomon (19:10.29). Five of the top seven racers were Westmnster girls.
The Titans won the boys race with 25 points to Westminster’s 41. The Wildcats’ Graham Huff won the race in 16:28.88 ahead of Ben McCoy of BT, who turned in a time of 16:31.36. Decatur’s Sam Ellis came in third with 16:58.86. The Titans finished four of the top six racers.
Marietta dominated the boys meet at the Region 4-AAAAAA meet at Harrison. The Blue Devils took just 15 points and placed the top six racers. Khayvonn Benson won the race in 15:29.88 ahead of teammate Jack Henderson (15:40.24). North Cobb came in a distant second and Kennesaw Mountain took third.
Harrison won the girls race with 27 points ahead of Marietta’s 35. Mary Jeanne Assinzo of Marietta won the race in a time of 18:11.35. Harrison’s Mattie Rountree came in second with a time of 18:44.60.
Clarkston won the boys Region 6-AAAAA title while Dunwoody won the girls meet. Druid Hills came in second in the boys race with 55 points while Dunwoody took third with 64 points. Abbas Abbkar won the race with a time of 16:42.64 while Druid Hills’ Ermais Terwolde came in second in 16:51.60. The third- through fifth-place racers were all Clarkston Angoras.
The Dunwoody girls took 27 points while Druid Hills came in second with 47 points. Southwest DeKalb came in third and Clarkson took fourth. Druid Hills’ Paulette Juieng won the race with a time of 21:18.20 while Kayla Willis of Southwest DeKalb came in second with a time of 21:32.98. The Wildcats had six of the next nine runners.
St. Pius and Marist split the Region 6-AAAA meet with the Golden Lions winning the boys race and the War Eagles taking the girls race. St. Pius came in second in the girls race with 47 points, well behind Marist’s 15. Grady came in third with 100 and Chamblee took fourth with 114. The top-five finishers in the race were all Marist girls, led by Morgan Ilse’s 19:53.
Frank Pittman of Marist won the boys race in 16:52 and was followed by St. Pius runners Stephen Martinez (17:21) and Nik Calia (17:28). Knox Pittman of Marist took fourth and George Meyer of Pius took fifth. Marist came in second with 33 points and was followed by Grady (92) and Chamblee (126).
