The Corky Kell Classic, the annual high school football event that symbolizes the opening of each new season, is expanding into middle Georgia in 2016 by adding two Thursday games at Mercer University.

The event, which will be in its 25th year, also lured 2015 state finalists Buford and Roswell, which will play each other on Friday at McEachern.

The Thursday games, set for Mercer’s Five Star Stadium in Macon, have Houston County playing Mary Persons followed by Lee County against Jones County. Those will be first-time appearances in the Kell Classic by those schools.

On Friday, the Buford-Roswell game proceeds South Forsyth vs. Hillgrove at McEachern’s Cantrell Stadium.

The traditional Georgia Dome games will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday with Kell and Tucker leading off. Colquitt County, ranked No. 1 currently in Class AAAAAA, will play Mill Creek in one of four games in the new Class AAAAAAA.

Fox Sports Southeast will televise the games.
