Here are football hires and changes from the past week.
Whitewater names McCreary’s replacement
Whitewater has promoted offensive assistant Bryan Holley to replace Amos McCreary, the program founder who retired. Holley has coached at Whitewater the past two seasons. He was on Starr's Mills staff from 2004 to 2013. He had been a head coach for five seasons at Muhlenberg South in Kentucky. McCreary was 161-81 in 22 seasons as a head coach, the past 12 seasons at Whitewater. Read the Fayette News for more on this hire.
North Cobb Christian coach takes Texas job
North Cobb Christian coach Scott Ryle on Friday will be announced as head coach at Brook Hill School in Texas, according to the Marietta Daily Journal. Ryle's North Cobb Christian tams went 1-9, 5-5 and 6-4. The program's record was 6-42 in its seven-year history he took over in 2013. An Illinois native, Ryle had coached in Texas just prior to coming to North Cobb Christian.
Tattnall hires Prince Avenue coordinator
Tattnall Square in Macon has hired Prince Avenue Christian offensive coordinator Chance Jones to replace Clint Morgan, who was 22-11 in three seasons. Jones is a graduate of the Westfield School in Perry and is the son of Westfield head coach Ronnie Jones, who has 329 victories in the Georgia Independent School Association. Tattnall Square joined the GHSA in 2014 and went 10-2 and 4-6. Tattnall won 11 GISA state championships under Barney Hester, who is now head coach at Howard in Macon. Chance Jones had been at Prince Avenue for the past six seasons. Read the Macon Telegraph for more on this hire.
North Murray picks Poag
Preston Poag is expected to be approved as head coach at North Murray on Thursday. Poag, a Dalton High graduate, was 24-20 in four seasons at Christian Heritage, which joined the GHSA in 2012 from the Glory for Christ Football League. The team was 6-6 in 2015 and won its first state-playoff game, a victory over Athens Academy before a one-point loss to Class A private runner-up Aquinas. Glenn Hills hires Creekside coordinator
Glenn Hills of Augusta has hired Creekside defensive coordinator and former Newton head coach Nick Collins to replace Tim McClain, who as 6-24 in three seasons. Collins was 10-21 in three seasons at Newton (2007-09) but steadily improved. His 2009 team finished 6-5 and earned the program's first playoff berth in six years. Glenn Hills was 0-10 in 2015 and hasn't had a winning season since 2008. Read the Augusta Chronicle for more on this hire.
