Treutlen won its first-ever state championship in baseball on Saturday with a two-game sweep of Trion in the Class A public-school series in Soperton. The final scores were 3-1 and 6-2.

The victory marked the first state championship in any sport for the southeast Georgia school since Treutlen’s boys track-and-field team won a Class B crown in 1974.

In the opener Saturday, Treutlen's Zach Hughes pitched a three-hit shutout. He struck out eight. Bryson Wilcher was 2-for-3 with a double for Treutlen (28-5), the home team.

Trion’s Drew Williams allowed just one earned run in his six innings. He allowed five hits and no walks and struck out four.

In Game 2, Treutlen scored single runs in four of the first five innings and never trailed.

Tristan Cone pitched the complete-game four-hitter and struck out nine batters. He was 2-for-3 with a double.

Magel Johnson was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBI. Tyler Summerall was 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI.

Gabe Howell and Drew Williams hit home runs for Trion (24-9).
