Hebron Christian and Tattnall Square Academy split their double-header Saturday in the Class A private-school championship baseball series.

Hebron lost the opener 2-1 despite getting 11 hits, then won the second game 5-3 despite getting only two hits.

Game 3 will be played Monday, again at Tattnall Square in Macon, at 5:30 p.m.

In Game 1, Tattnall’s Logan Simmons homered to left field with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Tattnall the one-run victory. Hebron’s Jake Hershman, a Wofford signee, had struck out 12 Tattnall batters to that point. That included Simmons twice.

Cory Bartholomew, a USC Upstate signee, was Tattnall’s winning pitcher. He threw all seven innings, allowing 11 hits and three walks but only one run, a homer to Caleb Martin in the second inning. Luke Crawford was 3-for-3 for Hebron. Landon Jones and Spence Johns each were 2-for-4.

In Game 2, Hebron scored four runs without a hit in the third inning to erase a 3-1 deficit. All four Hebron runs were unearned, greased by three errors and two walks, and came after Tattnall starter Garrett Houston retired the first two batters.

Houston, who pitched six innings and struck out four. Bartholomew was 3-for-3, and Luke Laskey was 2-for-3 with a double for Tattnall.

Tyler Calvert and Sloan Bennett had Hebron’s only hits of the game.

Hebron (30-7), of Dacula, won the A private-school title in 2011.
