MACON - Hebron Christian outscored Fellowship Christian 4-3 in a penalty-kick shootout after a scoreless regulation and overtime to claim a 1-0 victory in the Class A girls soccer championship game Thursday at Mercer University's Five Star Stadium.
Freshman Lydia Atkinson’s goal on the final kick of the shootout was the decisive one for Hebron (16-2-1), which captured the first state title in program history.
The Lions also got conversions from Tyler Roof, Kendall Towe and Breanna Stone. Fellowship Christian missed its first two kicks, including one that was blocked by Hebron goalkeeper Lexi Kent, who helped the Lions record their third shutout in four playoff games.
The loss was the first of the season for Fellowship Christian (16-1-2), which came into the game ranked No. 1 and was seeking its first state title.
