The No. 8-ranked Brooks County Trojans showed why pollsters haven’t yet given up on them despite heading into the week with a 1-3 record. On Friday, they convincingly beat AAAA’s undefeated Thomas County Central, winning 38-22.

Here’s how the rest of the top 10 faired:

  • The top-ranked Rockmart Yellow Jackets shut out Dade County 48-0 in Region 7 action, improving to 4-0, 2-0 in league play. It was their second shutout in a row following a 61-0 win over Armuchee in their region opener. The Rome News-Tribune has details.
  • The No. 2 Hapeville Charter Hornets posted their first shutout of the season, beating McNair 71-0 and scoring a season-high in points.
  • On Thursday, the No. 3 Callaway Cavaliers defeated Temple 34-6 in their Region 5 opener. They are 4-1, 1-0 in league play. Kevin Eckleberry has the story for The LaGrange Daily News.
  • In their Region 2 opener, the No. 4 Dublin Fighting Irish beat East Laurens 77-13. They're 4-0.
  • The No. 5 Rabun County Wildcats beat Monticello 49-20 to improve to 4-0, 2-0 in Region 8. Wildcats quarterback Gunner Stockton accounted for all of the team's scores, according to AccessWDUN.
  • In Region 6, the No. 10 Douglass Astros topped Therrell 54-28, moving to 5-0, 3-0.
  • On bye: No. 6 Swainsboro, No. 7 Fitzgerald, No. 9 Washington County
