Here’s what went down in Week 6:

Holy Innocents’ is for real

If the win two weeks ago over previous private No. 1 Eagle’s Landing Christian wasn’t enough proof, No. 2 (private) Holy Innocents’ 31-0 trouncing of No. 6 (private) Wesleyan has solidified the Bears’ as title contenders. Once again, Holy Innocents’ used its power running game, led by senior RB Michael Cox (6-0, 220), who ran the ball 35 times for 173 yards and three scores. Defensive backs Sam Aiken and Landon Karidian had first half interceptions that led to 10 points, and the Bears led 17-0 at halftime. But the best description of how dominant they were came from Wolves’ head coach Franklin Pridgen, now in his 14th season at Wesleyan. “I didn't see this coming,” Pridgen told the Gwinnett Daily Post. “We had really good week of practice. That's an even bigger compliment to Holy Innocents', that we prepared as well as we could have — or at least we thought we did — and they were better. Much better.”

Bowdon picks up big road win

The last time Bowdon went 4-0 to start a Class A season was 2005, when the Red Devils went on to win their last region title as part of Class A. Bowdon showed last week that it is a serious contender for the Region 6 championship, with a 27-21 win at No. 10 North Cobb Christian, which also went into the contest undefeated. Sophomore RB Gage Stephens ran for 244 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries. Meanwhile, Bowdon’s defense played a key role in the win, as the Red Devils forced the Eagles to turn the ball over on downs at midfield, on their final possession, late in the game. NCC was held to just 101 yards rushing and completed just 9-of-24 passes.

Clinch survives a scare

No. 2 (public) Clinch County avoided losing two consecutive games for the first time since 2014 with a 28-22 win over a resurgent No. 7 (public) Wilcox County team. Clinch County scored the final 18 points after falling behind 22-10 in the third quarter. Demondre Edmonds' 31-yard TD run with 8:56 left gave Clinch the lead for good. Tyler Morehead rushed for 114 yards on 18 carries. Michael Walker rushed for 90 yards on 18 carries.

ELCA gets back on track

No. 3 (private) Eagle’s Landing Christian may have lost its opportunity for the 10th consecutive region championship, after losing to Holy Innocents’ two weeks ago. But the Charters served notice that they are still the favorite to win a fifth straight state championship after pounding previously unbeaten Trinity Christian 56-10. ELCA scored touchdowns on eight of its 10 possessions. Keaton Mitchell rushed for 160 yards and five touchdowns, one going 94 yards, on 13 carries. The Charters led 28-0 after the first quarter, and 42-3 at the half.

Other results of note:

No. 8 (public) Manchester 43, Marion County 14
No. 9 (public) Lincoln County 41, Warren County 14
Trion 21, Gordon Lee 7
