Region basketball tournaments in Class AAAAAAA begin Monday, and the most competitive in this class – and probably the entire state – will take place at Shiloh, at least on the boys side.
The Region 8 tournament features four top-10 boys teams – No. 1 Grayson, No. 3 Shiloh, No. 7 Archer and No. 8 Newton. The state semifinals will be fortunate to be that start-studded.
Grayson (24-1) is ranked No. 4 nationally in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25. The Rams’ only loss came against Region 8 rival newton in December. Archer and Shiloh have each lost games to Grayson by just one point.
Meanwhile, the Region 4 tournament might be the most interesting on both sides. For the girls, No. 3 Cherokee and No. 5 Woodstock are the top seeds. For the boys, No. 10 Cherokee took Etowah’s place in the rankings this week after a victory last week that snatched the tournament’s No. 1 seed.
