MACON – Dalton extended its unbeaten streak to 65 games and won its third consecutive state championship with a 4-0 victory over Allatoona in the Class AAAAA boys soccer final Friday at Mercer University’s Five Star Stadium.
Dalton is 64-0-1 over the past three seasons, outscoring its opponents 367-31 during the streak, including 32-0 in the playoffs this year. The Catamounts (20-0), who are ranked No. 1 nationally among spring teams by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, won the past two titles in Class AAAA before moving up in classification this season.
Kobe Perez opened the scoring with 27:48 to play in the first half on a free kick from about 23 yards out. He also scored on a penalty kick in the second half, giving him nine goals in the playoffs.
Churrui Huitanda increased the lead to 2-0 when he scored from 16 yards out with 22:17 remaining in the first half, then assisted on a second-half goal by Jose Espino.
Allatoona finished 16-2-3.
