Region races on the girls side of the classification take focus this weekend with roughly three weeks left before region tournaments begin. Below is a glance at the standings for each of the eight regions, showing the teams on top and those giving chase.
The highlights? Top-ranked Johnson-Savannah (10-0) leads No. 3 Beach (9-2) in the Region 3 standings. The Atomsmashers will travel to Camden County on Saturday.
In Region 2, one game separates two ranked teams at the top, with No. 5 Pierce County leading at 5-0 and No. 9 Tattnall County chasing at 4-1. Pierce defeated Tattnall County 43-35 Jan. 14 to take the lead.
In Region 5, No. 8 Cedar Grove and unranked Westminster are tied at the top of the standings, each with a 6-1 records.
In Region 7, Greater Atlanta Christian is at the top with a 6-1 record, placing the Spartans ahead of an unranked North Hall program (6-2). Sixth-ranked Dawson County (5-3) and No. 7 Fannin County (4-4) are chasing.
In Region 8, No. 2 Jefferson (7-0) has a significant lead on Morgan County (5-3) and Hart County (5-3). The Dragons will play at home against Franklin County on Friday and Class AAAAA No. 1 Buford on Saturday.
