Centennial and Apalachee have dipped into Gwinnett County to find their new head football coaches.

Centennial this week hired Grayson defensive coordinator Lenny Gregory to replace Jeff Carlberg, who resigned after three seasons. Gregory coached at Grayson for five seasons and was part of the 2011 state championship team. Gregory is a former defensive lineman at Brigham Young.

Norcross offensive coordinator Steve Sims is the new head coach at Apalachee in Barrow County. Sims has been at Norcross for 16 seasons, the past 10 as offensive coordinator. Norcross won state titles in 2012 and 2013. Apalachee is 1-19 over the past two seasons.

Gregory and Sims are among at least six Gwinnett County assistant coaches who have been hired as head coaches this off-season.

Others are Brookwood assistant Philip Jones (promoted at Brookwood), Archer offensive coordinator Josh Alexander (hired at Athens Academy), North Gwinnett defensive coordinator Robert Andrews (Bowdon) and Mountain View defensive coordinator Nich Bach (Dunwoody).
