On Tuesday, the girls' top 10 was reviewed. Here's a look at the latest boys rankings. There was some shuffling amongst the top 10, while Vidalia dropped out, making room
for Dublin.
1. Thomasville (20-1, 7-1 Region 1): The Bulldogs racked up a pair of double-digit wins last week, defeating Pelham 61-44 in league play and AAAA's Cairo 72-41. They play just once this week, but it's a big one against region opponent No. 9 Early County (16-4, 6-2). The Bulldogs defeated Early County 79-76 on the road on Jan. 8.
2. Seminole County (16-4, 8-1 R1): The Indians beat region opponents Brooks County (60-45) and Berrien (86-62) last week. They squeaked past Pelham 62-60 on Tuesday in league play, and have another region game against Fitzgerald (10-6, 5-4) on Friday. They close out the week on Saturday at A's Baker County (1-19).
3. Crawford County (18-2, 10-0 R4): The Eagles soared to a 3-0 record last week with region wins over Macon County (76-69), Bleckley County (58-52) and Putnam County (95-71). This week, they've picked up where they left off so far, defeating Monticello 80-69 in league play. They have one game remaining this week, a league road game against Northeast (2-20, 0-9) on Saturday.
4. Lovett (14-4, 8-1 R6): Winter weather limited the Lions to just one game last week, and it was a lopsided 80-40 win over region opponent BEST. They beat KIPP 86-63 on Tuesday in league play and have two more region games against Wesleyan (13-8, 6-4) on Friday and No. 6 Pace Academy (10-8, 8-1) on Saturday. The major showdown with the Knights obviously has implications in the league standings, and while the Lions currently enjoy a higher ranking, Pace beat Lovett 53-40 on Jan. 15.
5. Chattooga (20-1, 8-1 R7): The Indians move up a spot in the rankings having beat Dade County 71-55 last week while benefiting from a loss from then-No. 5 GAC. They beat Gordon Lee 80-57 on Tuesday. Both were region wins. They close the week Saturday against league opponent Armuchee (5-12, 0-8).
6. Pace Academy (10-8, 8-1 R6): The Knights move up three spots in the rankings after two wins that pushed their overall record to above .500. Their first win came all the way from Nashville, Tenn., where they edged St. Rita (Chicago) 47-45 on Monday in the Music City Classic. They followed that up with a huge region road win over GAC, 42-39, the next day. They beat league opponent Holy Innocents' 63-46 on Tuesday. They play region foes Hapeville Charter (8-12, 3-7) on Friday, and No. 4 Lovett (14-4, 8-1) on Saturday. If they can beat the Lions for a second time this season, they'll own sole possession of first place in the league standings.
7. Manchester (14-5, 6-0 R5): Last week, the Blue Devils edged AAAAA's then-No. 10 Shaw 87-82 before edging Temple 65-62 in league play. They picked up another region win on Tuesday, defeating Bowdon 86-66 and close the week with another region opponent on Friday at Bremen (3-16, 1-5).
8. GAC (12-9, 7-3 R6): The Spartans slip three spots in the rankings after last week's double-digit loss to Pace, and could be booted from the rankings altogether after their shocking region loss on Tuesday at Wesleyan, 48-33. They'll try to pick up a little bit of momentum when they close out the week on Friday against Hapeville Charter (8-12, 3-7) at home.
9. Early County (16-4, 6-2 R1): The Bobcats move up a spot in the rankings after a pair of region wins last week. They first edged Pelham 58-57, then blew out Berrien 100-46. They play at top-ranked region foe Thomasville (20-1, 7-1) on Friday after nearly beating them earlier this month, then close the week at home against A's Randolph-Clay (15-7) on Saturday.
10: Dublin (18-3, 9-0 R3): The Fighting Irish enter the rankings on an 11-game win streak that includes three wins last week over AAAAA's Houston County (84-64) and region opponents Metter (92-55) and East Laurens (99-54). They beat another league opponent, Harlem, 98-43 on Tuesday and face two more league foes on the road in East Laurens (7-9, 4-4) - for the second time in as many weeks - on Friday and Swainsboro (12-7, 7-1) on Saturday. Dublin beat Swainsboro 65-56 at home on Jan. 15. The Fighting Irish have not lost in this calendar year.
