There's no topping the quality of matchups involving Class AA teams from Week 1, at least not this week. However, Week 2 features plenty of action worth following.

There are two top 10 matchups for AA teams, though both are against higher classifications.

No. 6 Vidalia travels to West Laurens, the No. 8 team in AAAA. It's hard to imagine the Indians not coming away with the win because it's been 30 years since West Laurens won a game in the series. In 1985, West Laurens beat the Indians 7-0. Vidalia is 11-0 in the series since, including a 30-17 victory last season. Vidalia beat Swainsboro 21-0 last week; West Laurens beat Thomasville, 45-0.

No. 9 Lovett is clinging to a spot in the top 10 after being shut out 24-0 by No. 5 Pace Academy. The Lions' schedule doesn't ease up this week when they host Westminster, AAA's No. 3 team. It will be the second season in a row the Wildcats have opened their season against Lovett, a matchup they won 13-10 last season. Westminster has won four of the last six games in the series.

The state's No. 1-ranked team is the only one if the rankings enjoying a bye this week. The remaining ranked schools are back at it, against unranked teams. No. 2 Fitzgerald plays Heard County at Mercer - the Purple Hurricanes won 43-27 last year.

No. 3 GAC looks to get back on the winning after narrowly losing to Benedectine last week in double overtime. The Spartans take on North Oconee, a matchup they won 28-10 last year. No. 4 Macon County opens its season against Americus-Sumter and will look to avenge its 28-23 loss last year to the Panthers. No. 5 Pace - which enjoyed the largest rankings jump after debuting at No. 10 - will look to make work of Our Lady of Mercy, a team it narrowly beat last season, 14-12.

The remaining ranked teams not already mentioned - No. 7 Lamar County, No. 8 Brooks County and No. 10 Rabun County - all lost their season openers and will likely need to win this week to stay in the top 10. All three won their Week 2 matchups last year against the same opponents.
