Blessed Trinity nailed down first place in Region 4-AAA Div. B on Friday night with a 61-47 win over Douglass. The No. 8-ranked Titans improved to 21-4 overall and completed subregion play with a perfect 10-0 mark. Coach Patrick Hughes will be the top seed from the subregion when the region tournament begins this week at Douglass.
The Titans, winners of six straight, were led by John Michael Bertrand with 14 points. Kyle Swade and Ben Shappard each scored 10 for the Titans.
In other boys games:
No. 10 East Hall finished the regular season on a high note with a 90-74 win over Franklin County. The Vikings (20-5) completed play in Region 7 with a perfect 12-0 record. Kyvon Davenport scored 33 points to pace East Hall on Senior Night.
No. 2 Jenkins (21-3) earned a spot in the state playoffs with its 91-66 win over Appling County. The Warriors got 18 points and seven assists from Eric Johnson to nail down an undefeated 10-0 record in Region 1-AAA Div. A. That region allows teams with a perfect subregion record to receive a bye to the region semifinals, thus guaranteeing a place in the state tournament.
Peach County closed the regular season with a 72-66 win over Westside Macon. Saire Davis led four Peach County players in double figures with 18 points. The win left Peach (19-5, 14-2) tied with Central Macon for second place in Region 2, but Central wins the tiebreaker and will enter the region as the No. 2 seed. Central (19-6) beat Jordan 65-54 thanks to 24 points from Antarius McCoy.
In girls games played Friday,
No. 1 Dawson County (25-0) had two players with double-doubles and finished a perfect season with a 56-49 win against West Hall. Sheyenne Seabolt had 23 points, including 9-for-9 at the line, with 19 reounds. Ashley Parker scored 15 and 11 rebounds.
No. 3 Kendrick (24-1, 14-0) got ready to defend its state championship with an 86-36 win over Southwest Macon. The Cherokees were led by Melia Jones with 23 points and Taylor Farley with 17 points. Kendrick has won five straight games.
No. 4 Laney turned aside a challenge from No. 7 Washington County 57-47 and will enter the playoffs as the top seed from Region 3. The Wildcats used an 18-10 run in the second period to take charge of the game. Aliyah Collier scored 16 points to lead Laney (12-3, 11-0). Washington County (19-5) was led by Daknequa with 15 points.
No. 2 South Atlanta completed its 25-0 season with a 72-22 win over McNair. The Hornets will enter the Region 4-AAA tournament as the No. 1 seed from Division A.
