Two other No. 1-ranked teams in the Journal-Constitution rankings lost in recent days but held their places.

Jonesboro’s boys (21-4), the defending AAAA champion, fell to nationally ranked Oak Hill Academy of Virginia.

Wesleyan’s girls (22-3) lost to Holy Innocents’ (20-5) in a Region 6-AA game. Holy Innocents’ climbed one spot to No. 2. Wesleyan and Holy Innocents’ split their two regular-season meetings and finished tied for first in 6-AA. They are likely to meet again this week in the region tournament, and the winner of that game probably takes the No. 1 ranking into the state tournament.

There are 13 new teams in the rankings, an unusually high number.

In the girls rankings, Woodstock replaced West Forsyth in AAAAAA; Creekview and Hiram replaced Gainesville and Sequoyah in AAAAA; Northwest Whitfield replaced Bainbridge in AAAA; Fitzgerald replaced Lovett in AA; and Lakeview Academy replaced Commerce in A.

Newly ranked boys teams are Berkmar and Lambert for Newton and Campbell in AAAAAA, Warner Robins for Heritage-Conyers in AAAAA, Bainbridge and Walnut Grove for Sandy Creek and Worth County in AAA and Taylor County and Stratford Academy for Treutlen and Turner County in A.

Two top-10 boys teams remained ranked despite two losses, perhaps in letdowns after clinching high seeds in their region tournaments, which begin this week.

In AAAA, Eagle’s Landing (22-3) dropped to No. 6 from No. 3 after consecutive losses to Henry County and Walnut Grove. In AA, Chattooga (22-3) lost to Darlington and Cedartown and fell four places to No. 9.
