Atlanta Public Schools alumnus William Judson, a member of the Miami Dolphins’ Super Bowl teams from the 1982 and 1984 seasons, presented an NFL Golden Football to Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Meria J. Carstarphen on Friday morning on part of the NFL’s initiative to pay homage to high schools across the country that helped produce future Super Bowl competitors.
Judson played eight seasons in the NFL, all with the Dolphins, and had 24 career interceptions.
The local ceremony also recognized eight other APS alumni who played in the Super Bowl (see list below). Judson was a 1978 graduate of Sylvan, now a middle school. Judson’s Golden Football will be placed in a district-wide trophy case.
In honor of the 50th  anniversary of the Super Bowl, the NFL created the initiative in which any player who has participated in a Super Bowl can request a “golden football” to present to his former high school:.

Backed by Wilson, the football maker, the NFL is recognizing each school nationwide that is home to at least one alum of a prior Super Bowl game. See this story for a list of all of those.

Other APS Super Bowl alums who will be acknowledged include:

Richard Dent , Murphy High School (now Crim High School), Chicago Bears, Super Bowl XX (20)

Bucky Dilts , Dykes High School (now Sutton Middle School), Denver Broncos, Super Bowl XII (12)
