The area’s city and county championship meets have produced, and are continuing to produce, some of top performances in the state and the nation. Here’s a look:
Atlanta Public Schools Championships (The Atlanta Track Classic)
Champions: Grady boys, Maynard Jackson girls
Top performances: Christian McNair-Jones, a junior at Grady, ran the state’s top time in the 300-meter hurdles, 37.86 seconds. It is the No. 15 time in the nation.
Cobb County Championships
Champions: Marietta boys, McEachern girls
Top performances: Walton freshman Tia Jones ran the state’s and the nation’s top time in the 100-meter hurdles, 13.27. Isiah Rogers, a senior at Campbell, had a shot put of 65-feet, 6-inches, which is No. 1 in the state and No. 4 in the nation. Makenzie Dunmore, a McEachern senior, ran the state’s fastest time in the 200 meters, 23.67. It is the No. 2 time in the U.S. McEachern’s 400-meter relay team ran the state’s top time of 45.84, which is No. 3 in the nation. Nia Seldon, a senior at Marietta, had a shot put of 44-feet, No. 1 in Georgia and No. 14 in the country.
DeKalb County Championships
Champions: Lakeside-DeKalb boys, Chamblee girls
Top performance: Southwest DeKalb junior Terryon Conwell ran the state's top time in the 200, 21.16. It is the No. 13 time in the U.S.
Douglas County Championships
Champions: Alexander boys and girls
Top performance: Vivette Green of Alexander won the 100 meters in a time of 11.96, tied for ninth in the state.
Fayette County Championships
Champions: Whitewater boys, McIntosh girls
Top performance: Fayette County sophomore Nailah Moore won the long jump and the triple jump with leaps of 17-8 ¾ and 36-1 ¼ , respectively.
Forsyth County Championships
Champions: Lambert boys and girls
Top performance: Savannah Carnahan, a senior at South Forsyth, won the 1,600 meters in a time of 5:04.22, the state’s seventh fastest this season, and the 3,200 in 10:42.94. Carnahan ran the state’s fastest time in that event (10:34.45) in a meet at Chattahoochee on March 9.
Fulton County Championships
Champions: Roswell boys, Westlake girls
Top performances: Westlake sophomore Rainey Anderson ran the state's fastest time in the 110-meter hurdles, 13.78. It is the nation's second fastest time. North Springs sophomore Jayda Drake-Howard ran the state's fastest time in the 300-meter hurdles, 42.00. It is the fourth fastest time in the country.
Gwinnett County Championships
Champions: Brookwood girls and boys
Top performance: South Gwinnett sophomore Terrell Smith ran the state's top time in the 100 meters, 10.32. It is No. 2 in the U.S.
Hall County Championships
Champions: Flowery Branch boys, North Hall girls
Top performances: Jake Shewbert, a senior at Flowery Branch, won the 1,600 and the 3,200 meters in 4:22.15 and 9:28.33, respectively.
Note: Clayton County and Henry County will complete their championship meets on Thursday. Eagle's Landing senior Devon Dixon ran the state's fastest time in the preliminary round of the 800 meters, 1:51.97. It is the second fastest time in the nation.
