The top-ranked Allatoona boys are the only remaining unbeaten basketball team – boys or girls – in Class AAAAA. The Buccaneers were 22-0 heading into Saturday’s game against Paulding County after picking up three region victories by an average of 21 points earlier in the week. Allatoona, which reached the state final last year, has lost just six games in three seasons.

Trey Doomes had 15 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals in a 68-47 victory over Chapel Hill on Friday, according to the Marietta Daily Journal. Allatoona is 15-0 in region play and has all but locked up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming 5-AAAAA tournament.

Six other boys teams are undefeated in region play going into the final week of the regular season. They are Warner Robins (Region 2), No. 9 Effingham County (Region 3), No. 5 McIntosh (Region 4), No. 2 Miller Grove (Region 6), No. 7 Riverwood (Region 7) and No. 3 Gainesville (Region 8).

On the girls’ side, No. 1 Glynn Academy (20-1), No. 2 Warner Robins (16-1), No. 4 Flowery Branch (21-1) and No. 6 Grovetown (23-1) have the best overall records, with one loss each.

Here’s a look at some of the other top stories from the week in Class AAAAA basketball:

*Miller Grove boys ruling Region 6 again: The second-ranked Miller Grove boys team is 21-2 overall, but the Wolverines are undefeated against Georgia teams and need just one more victory to complete their fifth perfect region mark in six seasons. Miller Grove (11-0 in Region 6) plays at Stephenson on Tuesday in its regular-season finale. The Wolverines cleared a big hurdle on Tuesday when they held off eighth-ranked Southwest DeKalb 53-45. McDonald's All-American guard Alterique Gilbert scored 17 points against the Panthers, then had 25 points, six assists and six steals in a 90-47 win over Druid Hills on Friday.

*Grovetown girls back on track: The sixth-ranked Grovetown girls team (23-1, 8-1) has regained control in Region 2-AAAAA Division A since suffering its only loss of the season, 59-50 at Cross Creek on Jan. 9. The Warriors have won six consecutive games, including a 62-49 payback victory against Cross Creek on Jan. 19, and can clinch a No. 1 seed for the region tournament with a win against Evans on Tuesday.
