Former Georgia Tech quarterback Tevin Washington has accepted a spot on the Yellow Jackets’ coaching staff as a graduate assistant. He will help coach the offense and replace former Tech linebacker Steven Sylvester, who has reportedly taken an assistant coaching position at Jacksonville University.
Washington was Tech’s starting quarterback from the middle of the 2010 season through 2012, a tough-minded player who made the most of his talent and was named a captain of the 2012 team. The announcement about his new position was made on the Tech football Twitter account.
Sylvester’s role had primarily been working with the B-backs. Having played in the Tech offense for four seasons, Washington obviously brings significant knowledge of the system and can bring a different perspective to the staff. As a senior, he helped teach the scheme to quarterback Justin Thomas when he arrived in the summer of 2012.
Prior to joining the Tech staff, Washington had been working as a store manager for AT&T in the Atlanta area.
He is one of a number of recent Tech players who are in coaching, joining, among others, David Sims (Shorter University), Izaan Cross (North Atlanta High), Corey Dennis (Ohio State) and Shane Bowen (Kennesaw State).
