Former Georgia Tech star Marcus Georges-Hunt will take his shot at the NBA beginning  Saturday as a member of the Brooklyn Nets’ summer league team. The team will play three games in Las Vegas.

Georges-Hunt was signed to the Brooklyn roster after he wasn’t selected in the 60-player draft June 23. He’s one of five players on the 13-man roster who is coming straight from college.

The route from summer-league signee to the NBA is treacherous. A likely path for Georges-Hunt would be to go to training camp with the Nets, and, presuming he doesn’t make the roster, play in the D-League or possibly go to Europe. A roster spot isn’t out of the question. One player on the Nets’ summer-league roster last year came straight out of college to play in the NBA (Cliff Alexander).

Georges-Hunt might find no better example in Tech’s basketball office. After his Tech career, Mario West was signed to the Hawks’ summer-league team and ended up making the regular-season roster, ultimately playing four NBA seasons.

He was hired as the team’s director of player personnel in May.

Brooklyn's Monday game against the Hawks will be broadcast on NBA TV at 4:30 p.m. (ET)
