For Georgia Tech defense, aggressive style coming
With eight starters returning, two previously ineligible players back in the fold and more non-starters with playing experience challenging for playing time, Roof has a sufficient pool of players with a deep bank of knowledge to install his defense at a quicker pace than last preseason.
“Right now through camp, we’ve been flying through,” linebacker Tyler Marcordes said at media day. “We’ve already put in new stuff. We’re just so much further along than we were last year.”
The talent level and depth, it would appear, should enable Roof to play the aggressive style more to his liking.
Hunt-Days: Losing, regaining eligibility has changed him
“I’ve never been to jail, but I could imagine it’s something that… you love something that you want to do and you can’t do or don’t have the opportunity to do because of yourself and the things that you’ve done to get yourself there, and now you want it back,” Hunt-Days said. “It’s kind of detrimental, and throughout the whole year, I just swallowed my pride and I did the best and made the best I could.”

“Guys, you have anointed this team as national champs,” he said in something of an exaggeration. “You ought to watch them practice.”
Nate Cottrell out for year, Mikell Lands-Davis moves to A-back
Lands-Davis is the second player to move to A-back in recent days. Johnson shifted quarterback Matthew Jordan, who was behind starter Justin Thomas and backup Tim Byerly, to A-back Friday to give him a shot at playing time and add depth.
‘Football nerd’ Sean Bedford takes spot in Georgia Tech radio booth
A mock broadcast helped seal it. Gaudin and Bedford called the first quarter of the Orange Bowl off a copy of the television broadcast. It probably didn’t hurt that Bedford estimates that he has watched the Orange Bowl “probably 12 times.” Those who listen to Tech’s radio broadcast will be getting a self-described “football nerd” who delights in reviewing game video to dig into the tactics of coach Paul Johnson and defensive coordinator Ted Roof.
