Clemson, S.C. - Georgia Tech’s injury situation may have grown worse after Saturday’s loss to Clemson.
Offensive tackle Errin Joe, safety Demond Smith and cornerback Chris Milton were taken out of the game with injuries at various points in the game. Milton returned, but Joe and Smith did not. There was no word following the game regarding the severity of the injuries.
All three are starters and seniors who brought significant experience to the field. Smith was playing in his 47th career game – he has not missed a game in his career – and making his 26th career start. Likewise, Milton was also playing in his 47th career game and starting his 27th game. Joe was playing in his 22nd career game and was making his 13th career start, all in the past 13 games.
Smith was injured in the first half. Tech used various safeties to fill in for him, including A.J. Gray and Corey Griffin. Joe was replaced by Eason Fromayan at right tackle. Lance Austin came in for Milton.
The Tech injury list has been unusually substantial this season. No fewer than seven starters or critical backups – A-backs Qua Searcy, Broderick Snoddy and TaQuon Marshall, wide receiver Micheal Summers, quarterback Tim Byerly and defensive linemen Patrick Gamble and Rod Rook-Chungong – have missed games this season with injuries. Searcy and Byerly are both out for the season. That doesn’t include other players who were injured in the preseason, spring practice or offseason.
