As Georgia Tech men's basketball coach Josh Pastner rolls through scouting reports on each scholarship player on this team, one thing continues to pop up: points.
The team has to be smart in its shot selection because there isn't a go-to scorer.
The second thing is the players need to give total effort in everything from rebounding, to avoiding turnovers, to taking good shots.
The margin of error for earning wins will be very small.
Over the next few days, I’ll post player-by-player scouting reports on the team as it prepares for its exhibition opener against Shorter on Nov. 5 at McCamish Pavilion.
The Yellow Jackets went 21-15 overall, 8-10 in the ACC under previous coach Brian Gregory.
Tadric Jackson
Class: Junior.
Position: Guard.
Height: 6-2.
High school: Tift County.
Career averages
Points: 5.0.
Shooting percentage: 32.2.
3-point percentage: 21.9.
Rebounds: 1.4.
Miscellaneous: Totals of 72 assists and 47 turnovers in 66 games played. … A 60.7-percent free-throw shooter. … Career average of 14.3 minutes. … Hit 46.2 percent of his shots inside the 3-point line last season.
Coach Josh Pastner's take: He just can't play cool. He's got a lot of ability, a lot of talent. When he's playing well he's at a high level but he can't be an energy taker. His biggest thing is he's got to be an energy giver. He's got to be an energy giver. When he's an energy giver he's got a chance to be a good player. When he's an energy taker he's just going to sit the bench.
