Former Georgia Tech linebacker Brandon Watts will be back home in Washington County for the draft.
“It’s a nerve-wracking process,” he said. “I want to be around people I’m comfortable with. I just want to be around my family.”
Watts is hopeful for a phone call at some point during the draft. The calls from NFL teams, including Tampa Bay, Minnesota, St. Louis, the New York Jets and Miami have been steady. The Dophins, Watts said, have called multiple times, checking on contact information and to make sure he has no off-field issues.
Watts' draft stock jumped after a strong pro-day workout in March. He had workouts with San Diego and Minnesota and phone interviews with other teams.
Draft Insider said Watts is "lacks strength at the point," but is "fast up the field and sells out to make plays" and "could be a steal in the late rounds of this year's draft."
