Georgians traveling for Easter and spring break may find the driving a little easier, thanks to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The agency will suspend construction-related lane closures the next two weekends to accommodate heavy traffic for the holidays. The suspension will be in effect from noon Friday to 10 p.m. Sunday and from noon Friday April 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday April 8.

“Crashes often spike during holidays, and safety is our primary concern,” State Construction Engineer John Hancock said.

GDOT said crews may still be working near highways, and safety concerns may require long-term lane closures to remain in place.

Motorists can get real-time traffic information by calling 511 or by visiting 511ga.org.
