One in five bridges in Georgia are in poor or mediocre condition, according to a recently updated report by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

In addition, about 18 percent of the 14,769 bridges in the state are "structurally deficient" or "functionally obsolete."

While that may seem a troubling statistic, Georgia actually scores well in comparison to many other states.

In Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Oklahoma, Rhode Island and Wisconsin, the number of poor or mediocre bridges is 70 percent or higher.
