Contractors will be working overnight this week to demolish the Flat Shoals Road bridge as part of plans to build a new interchange with I-285.

One lane will be closed on the bridge. On I-285, two lanes in each direction between Flat Shoals Road and the I-20 interchange also will be closed.

The work will be timed to occur overnight from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. from today through Friday. Motorists should drive slowly and carefully through the area, since workers and heavy equipment will be in close proximity to the road, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The $35 million project is expected to be completed by Pittman Construction Company in the fall of 2017.
