Oscar noms include Jennifer Lawrence, Eddie Redmayne, "Revenant" and "Spotlight"

Eddie Redmayne is up for his second straight Oscar trophy and Jennifer Lawrence is nominated a fourth time after 2016 Academy Awards nominations were announced this morning.

Redmayne took home a trophy last year for his role as Stephen Hawking in "The Theory of Everything." Lawrence claimed an Oscar for "Silver Linings Playbook" and was nominated for "Winter's Bone" and "American Hustle." She's now up for her role in "Joy."

"Straight Outta Compton" is among the best original screenplay nominees. While it wasn't filmed in Atlanta, the Will Packer project got lots of hometown love. The Atlantic Station Regal theater was No. 1 in terms of box office sales during its debut weekend last year.

Other nominees for best original screenplay were "Bridge of Spies," "Ex Machina," "Inside Out" and "Spotlight."


Sylvester Stallone, who won a supporting actor Golden Globe for his role in "Creed" and Kate Winslet, who won a supporting actress Golden Globe for "Steve Jobs," are up for similar Oscars honors.

Other supporting actor nominees were Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Mark Ruffalo, and Mark Rylance.

Other best original score nominees were "Bridge of Spies," "Carol," "The Hateful Eight" and "Sicario."

Despite Georgia's robust and growing film community there weren't a ton of Atlanta connections among this year's Golden Globe nominees and winners . I'm not finding a single Oscar connection although many nominees have filmed projects in Atlanta.

Adam McKay, up for best director honors for "The Big Short," directed "Anchorman 2" in Atlanta. Here's our interview with him at the time.

Other best-director nominees are George Miller ("Mad Max: Fury Road), Alejandro G. Inarritu ("The Revenant"), Lenny Abrahamson ("Room") and Tom McCarthy ("Spotlight").

Last year's biggest local connection was "Selma," filmed largely in Atlanta. The stirring ballad "Glory" won a Globe and an Oscar.

Chris Rock will host the 2016 Academy Awards, airing Feb. 28 on ABC.

"I’m so glad to be hosting the Oscars,” said Rock, who also hosted in 2005, in a statement. It’s great to be back."
