His wife, Jamie Lynn Sparkman, keeps supporters apprised of his condition on a web site set up for that purpose.

On Feb. 22, she posted an update indicating he'd been placed in a medically induced coma following complications after a procedure.

"We need your prayers," she said then.

On Saturday, her update said he'd been through another procedure (he's gone through nearly 30 surgeries since the April 2014 shooting):

"Christopher's surgery went as well as expected yesterday. He was taken off the vent last night," she posted. "More to update later - wanted you all to know this now. Thank you for your continued prayers!"

She concluded with Scripture: "More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us." - Romans 5:3-5
