NEW YORK -- Ray Guy, of Thomson, Ga., becomes the first full-time punter to earn election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. An impact player throughout his entire 14-season career with the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders, he was named All-Pro six straight years.

"When I left Southern (Mississippi) and went to the Raiders, nothing changed," Guy said. "It stayed the same. I was an athlete. I'm still a country boy and I blended right in with he characteristics of the Raiders.

"It's been a great life for me. It's been a great road to travel and I've learned a lot of things."

He currently lives in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and works at Southern Mississippi.

"I'm helping the student athletes," Guy said. "When you leave something, you want to go back and give something. It should be that way and I want to give back as much as I can. I may not reach everybody, but if I ger one or two I will think I've done a great job. I want to be visible on campus and be around the student athletes on game day. I think that's a get give-back that you can do."
