FLOWERY BRANCH – The Falcons signed right tackle Pierce Burton and released guard Harland Gunn on Saturday.
Burton, 6-6, 305 pounds, was originally signed by the Minnesota Vikings as a rookie free agent in 2014 out of Mississippi.
Gunn, 6-2, 310 pounds, was originally signed by the Cowboys as a college free agent following the 2012 NFL Draft. He was signed by the Falcons in 2012 and played in 12 games.
Burton, 24, a native of Sacramento, Calif., started his career at San Jose State. He went to junior college before landing at Mississippi.
He redshirted in 2009. Played in one game in 2010 for San Jose State.
He helped lead his City College of San Francisco junior college team to a 12-0 record and the California Junior College state championship and the JC Gridwire national title as a sophomore.
He went on to start 26 games at right tackle for Mississippi.
