FLOWERY BRANCH — Here's what we learned on Tuesday about the Falcons (6-2), who play at San Francisco (2-6) at 4 p.m. Sunday at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

Falcons tight end Jacob Tamme knocks Buccaneers cornerback Alterraun Verner to the ground on his way into the endzone for a touchdown to cut the Buccaneers lead to 20-10 during the third quarter in a football game on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, in Atlanta. 1. Backup Derby: The Falcons will get face another backup quarterback this year since the 49ers have benched Colin Kaepernick in favor of Blaine Gabbert , who has a 5-22 record as a starter. The Falcons have also faced Dallas' Brandon Weeden and Tennessee's Zach Mettenberger. They also played former Houston signal caller Ryan Mallett, who's now out of the league, and Washington's Kirk Cousins, who was a backup until this season.
  2. Killer instinct: Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan wants the offense to attack more with they cross the 50-yard line and when they reach the redzone. He called it having "Killler's instinct" on his weekly radio show.
  3. Leaving early: The Falcons will leave a day on Friday early for their West Coast game.
  4. Practice squad: The Falcons signed wide receiver C.J. Goodwin to the practice squad. To make room for Goodwin, who played at California (Pa.) University, the Falcons released LaRon Byrd. Goodwin has spent time on Pittsburgh's practice squad.
  5. Tamme takes blame: Falcons tight end Jacob Tamme believes he could have broken up Matt Ryan's interception late in the second quarter and took the blame for his mistake.
