5 things we learned about the Falcons on Monday

FLOWERY BRANCH — Here are the five things we learned on Monday about the Falcons (6-4), who host the Minnesota Vikings (7-3) at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Georgia Dome.

1. What's wrong with Matt Ryan? Former NFL great and broadcaster Randy Cross has some thoughts on what's wrong with Matt Ryan. Michael Cunningham's Mike Check blog checked in on Ryan so did columnist Jeff Schultz.

2. Freeman update. Falcons running back Devonta Freeman is in the concussion protocol and had made a "good start," according to Falcons coach Dan Quinn.

3. Offense keeps stalling. Quinn said the two turnovers on the first downs stalled out the offensive against the Colts after the Falcons took a 21-7 lead in the third quarter. Over their final seven possession, they gained 52 yards on 25 plays. They could muster only three first downs and had a holding penalty declined. They did have scoring drives of 12, 10 and 10 plays before being stopped.

4. Did you say playoffs? Despite going 1-4 over the past four games, the Falcons still control their own wildcard playoff destiny. Snce the 1970 merger a total of 66 of 72 (91.7 percent) who started the regular season 5-0 have made the playoffs.

5. Coleman still in plans. Quinn said he still has confidence in rookie running back Tevin Coleman, who had another fumble against the Colts. He fumbled in the red zone against New Orleans.
