FLOWERY BRANCH – The Falcons wrap up their first week of organized team activities today with the third session of the week.

They held non-contact practices on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Ryan likes the pace of the sessions.

“I think speed is key,” said Ryan, who talked with us for Sunday story on the intricacies of the new offensive scheme that will post later on MyAJC.com. “Scheme is one thing, you’re going to game plan week-to-week for scheme. But trying to replicate speed, day-in and day-out is huge particularly for guys just coming into it.

“The more you can replicate how fast the game moves on the practice field, the better off those young guys are going to be and the more productive they are going to be early.”

Ryan believes that most of the veterans have adjusted to first-year coach Dan Quinn’s style of practices. There is no longer a “cool zone” or specific water periods. Perhaps, that will come in the middle of the August heat. But for now, the Falcons are powering through their practices.

“At the first minicamp, the veteran minicamp, we kind of got a feel for what practice was going to be like and those kinds of things,” Ryan said. “Now, that we’ve got the rookies in here and a lot of the guys who are going to be here through the season, (Tuesday) was kind of the first time that our whole team was together.

“I thought we kind of worked on what Dan is preaching to us. We’re out moving around, flying around and playing fast and playing aggressive. We certainly have a long way to go, but it’s a good start.”

Ryan notices the changes in the tempo.

“Yeah, it’s nonstop,” Ryan said. “You get out here and you get going and you keep going. I like that.”
