FLOWERY BRANCH – Former Falcons great Chuck Smith, who's been coaching and training some of the league's top pass rushers, is working with the Cincinnati Bengals during their OTAs as a pass-rush coach and will serve an internship in the Bill Walsh coaching program with the team during training camp.
Smith, one of the NFL's top rushers of the 1990s, in retirement has been hired to help some of the top NFL candidates get ready for the combine and for their pre-draft workouts. Here's a pre-draft story with Smith breaking down the top pass rushers in the draft, including Falcons' first-round pick Vic Beasley.
Smith worked with Missouri's Shane Ray and Nebraska's Randy Gregory before the 2015 draft. He also has worked with Von Miller and Aaron Donald in the past. He also worked with Falcons defensive end Adrian Clayborn, who is trying to revive his NFL career, this offseason.
Smith played for the Falcons (1992-1999) and with Carolina (2000). He was on the franchise’s only Super Bowl team and was named an All-Pro in 1997. He finished his career with 58.5 sacks.
Smith coached for one season at Tennessee and was a pass-rush specialist for the New York Jets under Rex Ryan in 2009.
