FLOWERY BRANCH – Cincinnati wide receiver A.J. Green, the former Georgia standout, helped the Bengals pull out a dramatic 23-16 victory over the Baltimore Ravens with a 77-yard touchdown catch with 4:58 to play on Sunday.
He spoke with the Atlanta media during a conference call on Wednesday:
Q: Can you walk us through that game-winning touchdown catch you made against Baltimore?
A: It was just a double-go. Andy (Dalton) gave me a good ball. I got by (the defender). I juggled it a little bit, but I was able to contain it and go in for the score.
Q: How big of a win was that for the Bengals in Baltimore?
A: It was a big one. We haven't won there since I've been here. It was definitely a big one.
Q: Are you all always looking to take a number of shots down the field with your ability?
A: Oh definitely. They were giving us the deep ball. They were sitting on a lot of the short routes. With me communicating with (offensive coordinator) Hue (Jackson) and Andy we felt like we could go and get them on that play.
Q: What does your height allow you to do every week no matter who’s covering you?
A: Just adjust to the ball. Make the tough catches. Go up and get the ball, no matter where the ball is.
Q: How has Andy Dalton progressed in his development?
A: He's getting great. His is confident back there. The poise that he shows is just unbelievable.
Q: How good could the Bengals offense get under Hue Jackson?
A: The sky is the limit for us. We have a lot of young guys who can help take us to the next level. Every game is not going to be a good game, but I feel like with the guys that we have, we are going to be able to grind it out and do whatever it takes to come out with that (win).
Q: Can you talk about your wide receiver group?
A: Mohamed (Sanu) is one of the most diverse players and all-around players that we have. We can put him all over the place. We know what Marvin (Jones) can do once he gets back off his injury. We have Dane (Sanzenbacher) and James Wright, a player that you haven't seen yet. We have a pretty talented group. We have a lot of depth. That's the biggest thing.
Q: What’s your assessment of the Falcons’ secondary?
A: They have some young guys on the edge who can really run and play. With William Moore back there, they have one of the best safeties out there. He's going to come up and hit. They are a real talented group on the back end.
Q: What do you think Moore brings to their defense?
A: He's like a linebacker playing safety. He's always all over the field. He's so active. It's really hard to find a safety that's so active. He's someone, who can run and hit.
Q: Are you hooked on that Cincinnati chili?
A: No. I don't eat (any) of that stuff.
Q: How do you feel about your Georgia Bulldogs?
A: It's going to be good. We've got some of the best running backs in the game. I feel like we can go pretty far with that.
Q: Will it be good to see your old SEC mat Julio Jones?
A: He's a great player. He's has a great start to his career. You see what he did last year before he got hurt. I know what his abilities are. Our defense is going to have their hands full with him and Roddy (White) and all of the other receivers.
Q: Does going up against the Bengals defense in practice make the offense better?
A: Our defense is always rowdy. They are probably one of the best defenses in this league. It's really challenging going against them in each practice, but it helps make you better.
Q: What must the offense do better to improve from last season?
A: We just can't turn the ball over in big situations, in tight situations. We also have to convert on third downs.
