A multi-million dollar project to build giant canopies over the domestic terminal curbside areas at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is underway, and a model in the terminal atrium gives travelers an idea of what the new airport entrance will look like.
The model has been in the domestic terminal atrium for the past couple of months as the airport began work on the terminal roadways to prepare for construction of the canopies.
The work has caused lane closures and some congestion on the airport roads approaching the curbside pickup and dropoff areas.

The canopies will cost around $125 million to construct, and will be 55 feet high and 865 feet long. They are part of the Atlanta airport's $6 billion modernization and expansion plan.

The aim is to create a "beautifully illuminated public space" and protect travelers from the elements.
