A record 245 guns were caught at security checkpoints at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport last year -- and 222 of those guns were loaded.
That put the Atlanta airport again in the No. 1 position in the nation for the number of guns caught at airport security checkpoints.
While Hartsfield-Jackson handles the most passengers in the world, it does not have the most passengers going through security checkpoints. That's because the majority of passengers at the Atlanta airport are just passing through and connecting, and go through security at other airports.
Here's the breakdown, according to the Transportation Security Administration:
Top 10 airports for firearm discoveries, 2017
- Hartsfield-Jackson: 245
- Dallas/Fort Worth: 211
- Houston Bush Intercontinental: 142
- Denver: 118
- Phoenix Sky Harbor: 115
- Tampa International: 97
- Orlando International: 94
- Dallas Love Field: 93
- Nashville International: 89
- Seattle-Tacoma: 75
