Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport officials said earlier security checkpoint hours and extra staff helped keep lines down at Transportation Security Administration checkpoints over Memorial Day weekend.
TSA is in the process of adding 171 more officers at Hartsfield-Jackson, said the airport's interim manager Roosevelt Council. He said another 15 security officers have been freed up by replacing officers staffing exit lanes with contractors.
Council said security lanes are now opening up as early as 4:30 a.m. to process passengers earlier in the busy morning hours, instead of opening at 5 a.m. or later.

Wait times averaged 13.5 minutes over the weekend, according to the airport.
TSA has "been actually quite responsive," Council said, adding that he is "happy with the amount of effort."
