Delta Air Lines plans to modernize terminals at New York's LaGuardia Airport and Los Angeles International Airport, in an effort to revamp facilities and allow faster connections.

Los Angeles International and New York LaGuardia are two of Delta's newer hubs, where the airline has grown rapidly in recent years.

In New York, Delta is working with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to replace "outmoded" Terminals C and D with a new facility. It's part of a long-term lease deal to be negotiated to cover a period through 2050. Delta also operates on Terminal A at LaGuardia.

Delta said its new terminal at LaGuardia will have 37 gates on four concourses with a centralized check-in lobby, security checkpoint and baggage claim. The layout will also reduce taxi times, according to the airline.

Delta has about 275 daily departures at its hub at LaGuardia, and also operates an international hub at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.

In Los Angeles, Delta is launching an initial $350 million project to modernize and connect terminals at Los Angeles International, based on a lease agreement signed Wednesday. The airline will relocate to Terminals 2 and 3 from Terminals 5 and 6.

For the airport, Delta's project helps to upgrade LAX before the 2024 Summer Olympics, in the event Los Angeles is selected to host the games.

In Atlanta, where Delta has its headquarters and largest hub, Delta is also modernizing its terminal and concourses as part of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport's massive renovation and expansion.
