Jermaine Dupri and Diddy agree to go ‘hit-for-hit’ in Atlanta

The moment we’ve all been waiting for – two legends in the music game are facing off.
It’s been almost a year since the idea first started floating around but it looks like the stars have finally aligned, literally. Diddy and Jermaine Dupri aka JD have officially agreed to go head-to-head in a Verzuz-type battle. JD and Diddy hopped on Instagram live and Diddy initiated the conversation, “JD, if you want that smoke, you can get that smoke anytime.”
Shortly after, JD agreed to set it up in Atlanta but wanted to make a change to the typical format – instead of battling and declaring a winner and loser, JD suggested they simply showcase the hits from both of their respective labels – So So Def and Bad Boy. Diddy agreed by saying “Let’s come together and do that Bad Boy, So So Def in Atlanta. It ain’t no Verzuz, it’s just hit for hit.”
Later, Diddy hopped back on Instagram to clear up his diss towards Verzuz. “Something I wanted to clarify when me and JD were talking about Verzuz, I mistakenly said Verzuz instead of Triller,” Diddy said. If you’re wondering why Diddy wanted to make that distinction, it’s because of the current lawsuit going on between his friends and Verzuz creators, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland vs. Triller. Swizz Beatz and Timbaland are suing the social media app Triller for $28 million, due to allegedly missing numerous payments to the two producers since Triller acquired Verzuz.
A representative for Triller said the situation was a “legal shakedown,” and that it’s “not a feud over Verzuz. It is simply about earn-out payments to Swizz and Tim.” The rep added Swizz and Timbaland had “been paid over $50 million in cash and stock to date, and they stand to benefit even more over time… On top of the $50 million they were paid, they have annual obligations, which if met, and no breach has occurred, entitles them to additional payments. Only one payment of $10 million was in question.”
Regardless of how messy the Verzuz and Triller situation may be behind the scenes, this JD/Diddy match-up is going to go down as one of the biggest moments in hip-hop history!
