When we’re talking Black music and entertainment, it doesn’t get much bigger than the stars that came out to be honored during the Walk of Fame induction ceremony and Juneteenth celebration on Saturday.

There is something special about honoring those who have done so much to impact the lives of so many around them. One way to do it? Cement them into history forever. Juneteenth weekend was the perfect time to celebrate Black changemakers in music and entertainment and give them their flowers. This year, The Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame (BMEWOF) honored 16 legendary inductees, including several that were in attendance to see their star unveiled - T.D. Jakes (Bishop, author and filmmaker), Cathy Hughes (Founder and Chairperson of Urban One, Inc., the largest African American owned and operated, broadcast company in the nation), Rev Run from Run DMC (rapper, producer and television personality) and several others.

“I’m in awe of the whole thing,” Rev Run told Access Atlanta. “When I looked at the magazine of all the different artist and all the different people that I’m being honored alongside of, it blew my mind.” Fellow honoree, Cathy Hughes also spoke with Access Atlanta about the star being more than just a star, but more so paving a way for others. “My legacy means that I’ve left an example for those coming behind me,” Hughes said. “Really to embrace what I think is most important to me, is to keep that door open for those coming behind you.”

The Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame (BMEWOF) aims to honor iconic individuals and organizations that have impacted Black culture and community alongside those who continue to lead us into the future.

Previous inductees include Atlanta’s own, Outkast, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, Stevie Wonder and many more. You can see the stars on the Walk of Fame on the intersection of Northside Drive and Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, just outside the Mercedes Benz Stadium.
