What would the return of “Ghostbusters” be without the appearance of the Hi-C Ecto Cooler?
Atlanta-based Coca-Cola announced Monday it’s bringing back the popular drink at the end of May in anticipation of the updated version of the popular ’80s movie, which this time will star Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon.
The drink was all the rage back in the days when “Who you gonna call?” was a popular catchphrase and Bobby Brown and Ray Parker Jr. dominated the charts with hits tied to the popular “Ghostbusters” franchise.
Coke said the Hi-C Ecto Cooler will hit shelves May 30 and be sold in 10-packs of 6-ounce juice boxes and in 6- and 12-packs of 11.5-ounce aluminum cans. The company said thermal ink on the specially printed cans will turn the can “slime green” when the product is cold.
Though the drink was discontinued in 2001, fans and the honchos at Sony, which is releasing “Ghostbusters” on July 15, convinced Coke to bring it back.
"Hi-C Ecto Cooler fueled a pop culture phenomenon that is well remembered and beloved by
fans to this day," Charles Torrey, Vice President, Minute Maid/Hi-C Brands, Coca-Cola
North America, said in a release. "Sony Pictures was extremely enthusiastic about bringing it back for this special occasion, and the timing of the upcoming '"Ghostbusters" film made this the exact right time."
