The Federal Bureau of Investigation is consolidating offices in a new location in DeKalb County.
The new three-story building, along Flowers Road just outside I-285 in Doraville, will be developed by Virginia-based FD Stonewater.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported earlier this week FD Stonewater will manage the building under a 20-year lease with the U.S. General Services Administration, which manages federal real estate. The contract is valued at $101 million, according to a news release. But a location for the new structure was not announced at the time.
Construction is slated to begin in early 2016.
“Our team is thrilled to be awarded this monumental lease,” FD Stonewater executive Claiborne Williams said in the release. “GSA and FBI are going to be great partners in this endeavor and we are truly excited about the opportunity to deliver a new field office which will meet FBI’s mission for the next 20 years and beyond.”
The FBI’s new Atlanta field office will replace the agency’s current home in the Century Center office park near the junction of Clairemont Road and I-85 in DeKalb County.
The new project will consolidate three building leases for the FBI, reducing the agency’s leased office space by 15 percent, GSA spokeswoman Saudia Muwwakkil said.
The Atlanta division is one of 56 field offices in the U.S. The Atlanta office has jurisdiction over the state’s 159 counties, and there are 13 satellite offices across Georgia.
Powers Brown Architecture will design the building and Harvey Cleary Builders will serve as general contractor, the release said.
