The Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority said Thursday that the $81.7 million retrofit will occur over three years. When work is finished the 25-year-old plant will make fuselage panels for the 747-8, a third-generation version of Boeing’s iconic jumbo jet.

The retooling will include upgrades to buildings and existing equipment as well as installation of new equipment, the authority said.
