Preston Williams, a 5-star signee from Lovejoy High, has officially joined the Tennessee Vols football program after a delay lasting several months.

From Vols coach Butch Jones:

Last month, Williams was denied acceptance into Tennessee after his ACT score was flagged by the NCAA Clearinghouse for being too low. Williams has retaken the test and scored high enough that he is ready to join the team.

It’s unclear what Williams’ role will be in his first year with the Vols. He’s been recovering from a torn ACL since December and may not be ready to immediately contribute.

The Vols will need all the help they can get at receiver with Pig Howard suspended for the season opener against Bowling Green.

247Sports has Williams, who stands at 6-foot-4, 209 pounds, as the No. 3-ranked receiver in the country.
