It seems that the Southeastern Conference coaches are high on Missouri's Maty Mauk as he enters his junior season.
The Preseason Coaches All-SEC teams were announced on Tuesday and Mauk was voted as the second-team quarterback. It seems a little high for someone who threw 13 interceptions last season and was erratic at times, but it could have been his experience that was appealing to SEC coaches.
That certainly wasn't the case with the third team where Auburn's Jeremy Johnson and Tennessee's Joshua Dobbs were nominated. Johnson has barely played in his first two years, but the hype around him is enormous. Dobbs is in a similar boat after coming on towards the end of last season.
SEC coaches have their jobs for a reason, but Mauk came as the biggest surprise with the preseason teams.
All 14 SEC schools were represented with Alabama and LSU leading the way with 10 players each. Two players made the teams at three different positions. South Carolina's Pharoh Cooper was a first-team position player at wide receiver, all-purpose athlete and return specialist. LSU's Leonard Fournette was a first-team running back and received second-team honors at all-purpose and return specialist.
