Dylan Thompson left the South Carolina Gamecocks with a big hole at the quarterback position after he graduated, but the team has apparently found his heir apparent.

South Carolina announced on Tuesday that redshirt sophomore Connor Mitch will be the team's starting quarterback, according to Bleacher Report's Barrett Sallee.

Mitch was the clear favorite heading into fall camp as he battled walk-on Perry Orth and Michael Scarnecchia for the job.

Even though Mitch is now the guy in Columbia, Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier has been adamant with his desire to play two quarterbacks in the team's opener against North Carolina.

I guess we will have to wait and see when Sept. 3 rolls around.
